π LET'S DISCUSS: Whatβs one unexpected thing that happened to you this summer? π
I was able to spend so much time with my 14-year old niece and had THE BEST time! This little fashionista took pity on me by giving my my makeup kit and closet a major overhaul! Now I definitively know I have neutral olive skin and should never, ever, EVER wear pale pink. Is it sad that a 14-year old had to set me straight?? Yes. Do I regret it? Not a damn bit. I made sure to spoil her for all her efforts. WIN-WIN.
Oh she made me spend so much money... but I was ok with it! π€£ She had me get these items, and I love them ALL:
- Patrick Ta Major Headlines Double-Take Creme & Powder Blush Duo (Sheβs Wanted)
- Nars Liquid Lipstick (Lose Control)
- Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb (clear)
- Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blush (Lucky)
- Saie Glowy Super Gel (Sunglow)
- Saie Glossbounce (Bounce)
- Too Faced Hangover Primer
- Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray
The Glossbounce looks too clear on me so I want to try it in Dream because it feels so good on my dry lips. The Nars lipstick has an amazing texture, and both blushes are incredible. I keep going back in forth in which one is my fave. Maybe the Rare Beauty by a smidge because a tiny bit goes a long way and it really sinks into your skin for a really natural look.
But my tippet top pick is that Saie Super Gel - WHAT A DIFFERENCE. She has me putting a tiny bit in both my primer and my Laura Mercer Liquid Moisturizer. My skin looks so dewy and glows in the best way! I LOVE IT.
Apparently I need a finishing powder now. Do you have a rec??
I'm with you on the powder. It usually makes me look older and dry, so I've been debating it, but the Bobbi one sounds like a winner. Seriously... you always have the best recs! Thank you!
Let me know how if you try it - just realised, is Jones Road available in Germany/do they ship? Iβve found the returns and customer services to be brilliant, in case things donβt suit. Hmmm. Will think on! XO
Oh I'm SO happy you're back!!! π (And I'm enjoying a bumper double edition of posts, because I'm just catching up! π€ͺ)π What beautiful, special and precious memories and family photos. Truly so wonderful. And you're so right, taking those pauses is 100% needed, and I love how you talk about the opportunity to reconnect with family, smell the roses (literally - just stepping into our garden to hang out laundry and catch the smell of a bloom is such a lift, I agree !πΉ). (Something unexpected that happened to me: discovering a jumpsuit that actually works, and doesn't look like I'm visiting to fix your boiler - do you call them boilers in the US? π€·ββοΈ. This was the summer I caught up on what everyone already knew about Uniqlo - yay for well cut basics! ) WELCOME BACK!!! π₯°
Awww, thank you, Jenni! I love how it always feels like we're in the same room just chatting away! Your personality is awesome. I will have to look you up next time we are in the UK.πAgree on the flowers! I used to buy fresh ones from the grocery store every week (they are so gorgeous and inexpensive here in Germany) because it's such a huge pick-me-up. Should totally start that back up. π OMG, the image of a boiler jumpsuit is hilarious! I need deets on this magical jumpsuit...is it the Oliver Bonas one??
Sandra!! I totally forgot π youβre in Germany - doh!!!! π£ So the possibility of seeing each other is real, we must work something out one day! I havenβt been to Germany since childhood. SO beautiful!! So, the jumpsuit isnβt the OB (you are SO ON IT!!), but Uniqlo - black linen, I might have to follow up on the newsletter and feature it if itβs still available, but it mightβve been in the sale. Straps, wide legs, super simple, square neckline. Happy Friday!!! Hope youβve got sunshine π this morning across the channel!!! π₯°XOXO
It was an unexpectedly blissful summer! We normally plan our long family trips during this time but Maxβs soccer schedule threw a wrench in those plans. Yet we were all still able to squeeze in some travel, which was nice. π The Dancing Elephant bookstore is a gorgeous hidden gem that caters to the woo-woo crowd. For example, they have a huge section on UFOs, so OF COURSE I snagged a couple books!! π€£ Will definitely be back the next time I go to FL. Do you have a cute bookstore in your area?
Thatβs exactly the vibe I was going for! If I could bottle up that vacation feeling and send it your way, I totally would. So glad it gave you a little escape!
Looks like you made the most of your gorgeous break -- thanks for bringing us along. Where were you in Germany? I live in Berlin, so am always curious to lean about places we haven't made it to yet.
100% with you on the bookstore bliss. I am currently reading House of Earth and Blood, so you'll get no shade from me on the pageturners π€£ Whatever you enjoy reading is excellent I say.
Hi Caroline! Iβm just outside of Ramstein Air Base. Can you believe we havenβt made it to Berlin yet, even though weβve been here for almost five years? π¬ But funny enough, my son has a soccer game in Berlin in a couple of weeks! I wonβt be able to go this time, but when I do visit, Iβd love to grab coffee with you, if youβre open to it. βοΈ
Oooh, Iβm so excited to hear your thoughts on βHouse of Earth and Bloodβ! I cried so many times while reading it. In my opinion, itβs the most heart-wrenching of all SJM books. Iβll be really curious to see what you think! π
We did have a big pandemic in the middle of the past five years, so that definitely slowed the travel down. Weβve been here six years and havenβt seen a quarter of the places we want to in Germany.
Definitely let me know when you make it here β I love a coffee meet up. π
I am really loving House of Earth and Blood. I loved the whole ACOTAR series, so I am delighted to be in her world again. β¨ Will keep you posted!
Have you read Throne of Glass?! Itβs even better than ACOTAR. I know β I was shocked too! I read all eight books back to back and it was a fun ride worth every second I ignored my responsibilities!
This looked like the loveliest sabbatical ever, wow. I really commend you for making the effort and doing all of these things, seeing all of the family members and really soaking it up, I love this for you. My favs would have to be the bookstore runs, getting your hair done and time by the water. Happy to have you back on the feed!
Thanks so much, Kathleen! It feels so good to be back. π And getting to see everyone was absolutely amazing! Summer has definitely become my favorite seasonβthereβs always so much happening, and itβs usually full of joy and excitement.
I was stoked to visit the bookstores! Living in Germany means I donβt often get the chance to browse English bookstores, so it was a real treat. They each their own personality too, which is always fun! The one in Lake Worth was more mystical with a focus on crystals while the one in Cocoa Beach was colorful and LGBTQ+ friendly. B&N is corporate but I still love it!
Judge you for reading SJM? Girl, that shows you have taste! I approve lol.
And also, I love your newsletter so much. The warmth just jumps off the page and all of your photos are bursting with happiness. It sounds like you had an incredible summer!
Thatβs such an incredible complimentβyou totally made my day!!! My mission with Sandrapop is to create a fun, positive space, so Iβm beyond happy that youβre loving itβ¦Thank you!!! π
This summer turned out to be pretty great. I didnβt fully realize it until I started putting this newsletter together. I needed to see it and talk about it here because, honestly, some of it was really tough. July marked the one-year anniversary of my brotherβs passing, which is one of the reasons I went home to be with my mom and the rest of the family. His wife and kids made a last-minute trip down from Tennessee, which was amazing, but it was still hard, and I really struggled with it. I guess thatβs something Iβll always carry with me.

You know I am going to need more details on the makeup - LOVE THAT LIPPIE, already! π XO

Haha!! Love that your niece had some fun with her Auntie at the makeup counter (so much!!) π€©π Thank you so much for deets! So Iβve tried the Fenty lip liner but now absolutely need to try the gloss, I did have that on my βto check out listβ! I havenβt tried any Rare Beauty yet, but, again, itβs at Space NK and on The List - will make a beeline for the blush, because you know I love a liquid or cream flush! πββοΈ I need to look at the Saie range, too - OK, beeline for the Super Gel! Hmmm finishing powder - I am not great with powders on my skin now, so canβt personally vouch for one BUT I think Jones Road has one, and one that can be used on top of all of the creams and balms, so could work well and might be worth checking out? Also, with Bobbi, you know youβre going to get a sheer, glowy finish (and not undo all the dewy work of your Saie glow!). XXXX
I'm with you on the powder. It usually makes me look older and dry, so I've been debating it, but the Bobbi one sounds like a winner. Seriously... you always have the best recs! Thank you!

I think they ship APO. Lucky for us we get a mailbox on base for US shipping!

Wow! It looks and sounds like you had a blissful summer indeed. Those bookstores look amazing - especially the first one. π

You are so sweet, thank you. He is definitely missed. π
